As has been pointed out already, half of these reviews are for a totally different restaurant in Washington State. I'll never understand how/why people can't figure out that they are reviewing the wrong establishment or how yelp is unable to identify these obvious mistakes. Also, the photo for the place is clearly not the Cold Spring KY location. I've eaten here a few times. Nothing particularly special - just everyday Americanized Chinese food.

The worst Chinese I've ever eaten. The chicken was mush and the black pepper chicken was pure salt and pepper. Was not edible. Very disappointed.

Ok, I made the bad mistake of letting coupons guide my decision process vs. Yelp. Classic mistake of a cheapskate. When I called for the carry-out order (nothing fancy, 3 chicken and rice dishes), the girl told me it would be 25-30 minutes at least because they had 2 to-go orders just come in. Yes, 2. Did that giant red flag waving at me stop me? Nope. Buy 2 get one free coupon, straight ahead. Got there in about 15 minutes, normal carry-out time, and now I was even more concerned. Sign outside was no problem, but the shades were drawn, and it looked like nobody was home. Huh? Go inside and realize it's less of a carry-out and has a decent sized amount of seating. Only problem was, hardly anyone was there. Place was not kept up well. And, it was dark and gloomy inside. The girl who met me was frazzled. I waited probably 25 more minutes. Got the food and no "sorry about the wait". At this point, I'm just worried about the food with the management going on here. To be honest, the food was better than I expected AND a pretty large portion. Nothing great, your standard chinese carry-out, but the wife and I were happy with our dishes (Cashew chicken and Szechuan chicken). So, the food ended up ok. But, moral of the story. Check Yelp. Don't live by coupons. There's a reason they have to give a meal away for free.

First of all I think reviews from a similar Gourmet Wok in Washington State have been inadvertently included in this Gourmet Wok in Cold Spring, KY. Washington and Kentucky are thousands of miles away however some way the two have gotten mixed up. Well, this review is for the Gourmet Wok in Cold Spring, Kentucky. I've been to this Chinese restaurant many times over the years and have ordered mostly to go. The interior is dated but very Chinese. It could use some spiffing-up to become more hip and relevant-especially being so close to a university. The staff are always courteous and make an effort to be hospitable even though I'm not there for dine-in. They sometimes offer tea or water if I have to wait which I usually decline. I don't think their food is mind-blowing, spectacular but I do like their food. I usually come here for the convenience. It's not far from where I live thus when my wife is not in the mood to cook dinner and we want to have Chinese this place is our default oriental place to go. We have our favorite to go dishes - pork/beef Egg Foo Yung, Hong Kong Steak, Beef & Broccoli and Sesame chicken. We have also ordered their Singapore Noodles which we also like. It's not the kind of place I would go out of my way to dine but we keep coming back because its close and good enough.

Food is cheap. Service is decent. I have tried several of the menu items and they were all good. This is a decent size place, but it seems most of their business is take out. My favorite is the general tso chicken. They also serve a limited alcohol menu. For the price, it is hard to beat (especially the lunch menu)

I don't know about the other two negative reviews... But I've only had very good experiences at this place. Service is very friendly. The food is prepared as ordered and the orange chicken and crab rangoons are great! I was impressed by the radish (?) (I'm not even sure what it was) ornament/garnish sculpting they put on the plate with each dish. Nice touch. They recently started doing free delivery. I would have given this place 4 stars but it loses one because of the price:value ratio. It's great food but if you're going to spend $$ (the 2 dollar sign rating is accurate) then I expect a little more... pizazz? I dont know. Also worthy of noting is the fact that the food at this place is way better than the nearby Chinese buffets.

I wish I didn't get take out otherwise I would have sent the food back. I ordered the stir fried eggplant, however I did not receive said order. I got some sort of unidentifiable vegetable in a tasteless brown sauce. Everything was mush and the only appealing part of the meal was when I stopped trying to push my way through it and threw it away. I like to think I know good Chinese food, Ive worked at Chinese places for over two years now and what I had today did not resemble any Chinese food I've ever had. Stay away!

This just happened to be the closest Chinese restaurant to us when we moved to Washington, and our order that first night consisted of honey walnut prawns and salt and pepper prawns. We've never found anything else there as good as those two dishes, but those were great, and the salt and pepper prawns are addictive! I've made new friends by taking those salt and pepper prawns to parties! Truly! I think I get invited back as much for the salt and pepper prawns I'm known to bring as for any other reason. Oh, and guess what my favorite dish here is? That would be the salt and pepper prawns. :-) The owners have recently brought in their own personal blood parrot fish. If you've never taken the time to watch these controversial hybrid fish, waiting for your order gives you a great opportunity to do just that. I've never seen fish with such personality, and they SMILE at you!! Love them.

If you've read my other Chinese restaurant reviews, you'll know that I have never met a Chinese restaurant I didn't like. Well, that amazing streak has come to an end... This place is terrible. My General Tso's chicken tasted like nothing I've ever had. In fact it didn't even taste "Asian", if such a thing is even possible in a Chinese restaurant. They had just come under new management, so maybe they aren't paying their cooks enough resulting in meals that will drive customers away. I don't know, but I certainly won't be back.

Dishes tasted blend, and some tasted weird. Lots of celery fillers. The interior also looked weird; it was crudely decorated. I have no idea how it survived all these years as a restaurant.

We stumbled upon this place when looking for a Starbucks to get online at and decided we were hungry. Now, it was totally by accident because you can't see it at all from the street. It's in a corner plaza and behind other businesses - it's a wonder they have stayed in business! But I think they have regulars. I've always gone at lunch time with good lunch prices and great portions and have NEVER been disappointed with the food at all. We usually order their chicken low mein with a few other things and I ask them not to add too much "salt" or "oil" to my food like I do in most places and they always make it to order. The flavor is good, the price right. The decor is soothing in that there are no garish colors and everything appears clean and tidy. Sort of pastel, but whatever. Go at lunch time, not too busy, custom order your food and then enjoy! Oh and they have an adjoining bar that I think get's busy in the evening. If Gourmet Wok is reading this, you really should do more RENTON and New Castle advertising because you can't afford to lose business to other more visible places and if you closed, I would be heartbroken! At least get one of those bistro-style street signs you can put near the sidewalk with an arrow directing people to the business!

Pretty good Chinese sit down restaurant. The food was REALLY good and when its that good you have to put a good price tag on it. Now my wife and I did not get no Octopus or anything fancy like that but the waitress was very nice and even offered to put leftovers in boxes for us. Host was nice as well. Very quiet and would not take kids though. I likey like

SAVE YOUR MONEY!!! I figured, can't go wrong ordering a few things here on my way home from work...sadly mistaken. I ordered the salt & pepper pork, which are usually nice crispy thinly cut pork chops. It seemed like someone already beat me to the tender morsels of pork leaving crispy chunks of sinew on fried bones. Also the hot pot special had nothing but cheap filler of imitation crab meat and celery. And lastly we ordered the house special chow mein with curry sauce. The noodles tasted like they were boiled and mixed with a curry sauce and again cheap fillers. Don't waste your money here. Go down the street to Renton Seafood on 4th and Union.

Ironically, though I've driven by thousands of times in the past, I would not have even noticed this place if it hadn't been for the road closure of Duvall Avenue NE! (Note: access to this place via Duvall Avenue NE is still possible... the road isn't closed until further to the north). Located (relatively hidden) behind a Bank of America, this Chinese restaurant offers a broad assortment of menu items including veggie meals. The restaurant also has an attached lounge. I had curry chicken with veggies and rice as part of a lunch special that included a small salad, soup, tea, and was about $9 when tax and tip is applied. It was satisfactory for a lunch, though the portions were not overly large and I was pretty hungry. I should have ordered a humbow! As for other details, the decor is OK, staff is friendly, and parking is adequate. Overall, it's average and I would consider returning again and ordering the pineapple chicken my co-worker had -- looked way better than my meal choice.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
